AP Biology: Course Description

Improve your chances for admission to the school of your choice by taking the 'AP Biology' OpenCourseWare offered by the University of California's College Prep Online. The course is designed for high school students whose schools don't offer an AP biology course and for those who would like an intensive review of previously covered material. 'AP Biology' is organized around four themes: science, technology and society; evolution; the relationship between structure and function; and science as a process. Some of the topics covered are the subject of lively debate in both the scientific community and the culture as a whole, such as DNA, genomes and biotechnology. Students may choose to use either of two textbooks that correspond to the lessons: Biology by Neil A. Campbell, Jane B. Reece and Lawrence G. Mitchell or The College Board AP Advanced Placement Program Biology Lab Manual for Students published by The College Board.

In addition to the textbooks, course materials include reading material, review sheets, reference sheets, virtual labs and discussion topics. If you're interested in taking this course, visit the advanced placement Biology course page.
