Introduction to Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science: Course Description
Students in this free OpenCourseWare examine current events in education, including the No Child Left Behind legislation, learning a second language and community service requirements for college admission. This course explores how involved parents should be in their children's schools, what the focus of sexual education should be and whether standardized test scores are overemphasized. Those using this course take on the alternate roles of student and teacher as they learn about various ways of learning and types of learners. They explore national education standards and encounter various methods for assessing student performance. Students also learn about various teaching methods and practices, including the use of mini-lessons and technology. This undergraduate course in Urban Studies and Planning is the first in a 2-part sequence designed to introduce students to teaching and learning in K-12 settings. 'Introduction to Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science' is led by MIT Professor Eric Klopfer.
