Exploring K-12 Classroom Teaching: Course Description
Throughout this undergraduate course, students examine current issues in education. They learn how to develop and implement curricula by studying various types of lesson plans, modes of teaching and forms of educational technology. They learn to assess their students' performance and to teach to these students' individual needs. They also consider the various misconceptions that middle and high school students may have about education. Students explore standards in mathematics and science instruction and encounter various Web resources that can help in teaching these disciplines. They also examine the role of gender in education, particularly in regards to math and science curricula. MIT Professor Eric Klopfer leads this course, which is offered through the Urban Studies and Planning department. Flash Player software is required to run some of the material found on the site for this free OpenCourseWare.
