Nationalism: Course Description
Nationalism has emerged as a leading component of modern political and societal systems. Professor Melissa Nobles developed this OpenCourseWare to introduce and explore the concept of nationalism and its many aspects. Students are presented with theories and study approaches on the thoughts and practices of nationalism. This free course will cover a broad range of topics that relate to nationalism, including democratization, state-building and religious disputes. As students explore topics in nationalism, including nation-states, national identity, movements and ideologies, they are expected to analyze case studies to further advance their understanding of nationalist practices and views. Students will demonstrate their knowledge by writing a 25-35 page research paper on a topic related to nationalism. This course was originally offered through the Political Science Department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
This OpenCourseWare includes a calendar, discussion questions, assignment suggestions and a detailed reading list. If you're interested in taking 'Nationalism', visit the theories of nationalism course page.
