Chinese Foreign Policy: Course Description
The People's Republic of China is the world's third largest country and has the second largest economy, making it an important global leader. Students interested in Chinese international relations policy can take a closer look in this free online course from MIT's Political Science department. 'Chinese Foreign Policy' was a lecture course taught by Professor M. Taylor Fravel, who wrote a book entitled Strong Borders, Secure Nation: Cooperation and Conflict in China's Territorial Disputes. The course begins by examining China's history of international relations and then moves into a study of the country's modern foreign policy building. Next, students learn about China's use of force and the country's relationship with the island of Taiwan. Readings for the course also provide an in-depth look at China's regional engagement, as well as its relations with Japan and the U.S. Although 'Chinese Foreign Policy' is a bachelor's-level course, the course content is also relevant for graduate Political Science students.
This course includes an extensive reading list and links to sources for current events. To learn more about China's international relations, visit the foreign policy course page.
