International Political Economy of Advanced Industrial Societies: Course Description
This course is offered by the Department of Political Science at MIT in Cambridge, MA, to cover international security concerns, international trade and international economic relations. Students use various economic theories to examine these three issues and identify side-effects, such as welfare issues, disparity in distribution and security. The course examines the effect of lobbyists, interest groups, the electorate, political parties, ideas, power politics and electoral institutions. The course readings are analyzed from three perspectives, including their content, data acquisition methodologies and empirical conclusions. The course prepares students for independent research, advanced papers and dissertations. Political science professor Dr. David Singer teaches this course.
