Western Kentucky University Overview
Originally founded as a teacher training college, Western Kentucky University was established in 1906. The university is one of the fasting growing Kentucky public universities, with a student population of over 19,500. U.S. News & World Report classifies WKU as a first tier university and 31st in the 2010 top public master's universities (South) category.
Bowling Green Community College, an academic college located on WKU's South campus, offers associate's degree programs in a wide range of areas, such as interdisciplinary studies, paramedicine, office system technologies and paralegal studies. The campus community features a career services center, a counseling center, judicial affairs center, intramural recreational sports and many student organizations and activities. Living options include learning and themed floors, located in the 15 residence halls.
Admission and Enrollment Overview
WKU has minimum GPA and SAT or ACT score requirements for minority, beginning freshmen, military and readmitted applicants. The university also has a required pre-college curriculum. Prospective students will need to also consult departmental admissions for additional requirements. Admission resources include a meeting with an advisement counselor, open house events and campus tours. Campus Learning Environment and Facilities
WKU has a student-faculty ratio at the university of 19:1. There are electronic and print materials, books, research guides, loan services, entertainment activities, leisure reading rooms and other library and museum services available at WKU Libraries. The university's student technology centers maintain open computer labs at locations across the campus. The labs also offer free laser printing to students. Over 35 departmental technology labs provide more than 700 computers, equipped with specialized software.
WKU has international study agreements with educational partners in a variety of locations, including Australia, England, Hungary and Ghana. Many of the available programs offer short and long-term opportunities for students to improve foreign language skills. The university allows eligible students to study abroad at any point during their academic careers.
