Virginia Tech is a land-grant university that was founded in 1872. The university's main campus is located on 2,600 acres in Blacksburg, Virginia between the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains.

The over 30,000 students enrolled at Virginia Tech pursue majors leading to bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Undergraduate degree programs are offered in over 70 majors, including agriculture, architecture, business, engineering and humanities. Graduate students can also find degree programs in veterinary medicine. Additionally, the U.S. News & World Report ranked Virginia Tech in the top 100 of national universities.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Virginia Tech requires that all students submit an online application and fee, along with required transcripts and test scores. After application submission, students will receive an email notification to create a guest account with Virginia Tech. Students can then receive and accept a Virginia Tech admission offer through their guest account. The university features a wide variety of scholarship opportunities, including departmental, athletic, international and military scholarships.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

The libraries at Virginia Tech include five libraries, including a main library and four branch libraries. Through these libraries, students have access to over a million books, journals, newspapers and other resources in multiple formats. Computer labs can be found in 14 locations throughout the campus, most of which are open 24 hours. Students also are provided several student resource labs, including the new media center, math emporium, senior design lab and a special services lab.

Virginia Tech has a student-to-teacher ratio of 16:1. Students are taught through a combination of lecture courses and hands-on training at research labs. Research opportunities are offered at the undergraduate and graduate level for most fields of study. Online learning opportunities are available for more than 80 graduate and undergraduate courses.
