Quantum Theory I: Course Description

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, the application of quantum mechanics is a central part of many professions in physics, astronomy and engineering. In MIT's 'Quantum Theory I' students will study the fundamentals of quantum theory. The course introduces several major theoretical topics in quantum mechanics, including observables, uncertainty relations, path integrals, angular momentum and time-evolution in Schrodinger and Heisenberg models. Because 'Quantum Theory I' is a graduate-level course, some background in advanced mathematics is recommended. This lecture-based course, taught by MIT professor Washington Taylor, is the first in a two-part series. To continue the course, just look for MIT's 'Quantum Theory II' OpenCourseWare.

Problem sets and lecture notes are available on the course website. If you're interested in taking this free online course, visit the quantum theory I course page.
