Effectively planning for community development includes the use of geographic information system (GIS) techniques and the skills necessary to manipulate data that incorporates complicated social and political issues. The 'A Workshop on Geographic Information Systems' OpenCourseWare concentrates on planning questions and requires spatial analysis to determine appropriate strategies when using specific mapping techniques.
