International Political Economy: Course Description
This free OpenCourseWare introduces students to international political economy, a discipline that combines politics, economic issues and international relations. Particular attention is given to advanced industrial societies. Professor David Singer divides the course into three areas, including international monetary and financial relations, security and international trade. Specific topics include institutional and structural perspectives, foreign direct investment, and conflict and economic interdependence. Through a series of lectures, students learn to use economic theories to identify the effects of welfare and distributional consequences. They also employ political science tools to study how voters, political parties and interest groups, in conjunction with ideas and electoral institutions, influence policy outcome. 'International Political Economy of Advanced Industrial Societies' is included as part of the curriculum in MIT's political science department.
This course consists of a series of lecture notes, a list of study questions and a reading list. To access this free, online class, visit the international political economy course page.
