Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine listed Ramapo in the '100 Best Values in Public Colleges' for 2009, the fourth consecutive year the college received this listing. The Princeton Review concurs, as it reported that Ramapo College of New Jersey is one of the best value undergraduate schools in the U.S. Ramapo is located in Mahwah, a small town of about 25,000 people that was chosen by New Jersey Monthly magazine in 2008 as the ninth best place to live in New Jersey.

The John Templeton Foundation included Ramapo College in its Honor Roll for Character-Building Colleges. This designation requires that character development is emphasized as an essential element for the undergraduate years; the college emphasizes the necessity of personal accountability and civic responsibility.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Ramapo College of New Jersey expects freshmen applicants to have completed 18 units of college preparatory courses. The application, which is available online or as a download, must indicate which area of study (major) the student will likely pursue and include an essay. Also needed are the high school transcript, official ACT or SAT scores, and at least one letter of recommendation. A student who would like to achieve advanced placement in some coursework should request information on Advanced Placement Examinations.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

Ramapo has seven major academic centers and buildings on campus, including the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. There is also the George C. Potter Library, which has more than a quarter of a million holdings. Communication students can participate in the school's own FM radio station, which has a variety of genres and talk shows.

Almost 70% of classes have 20-39 students; no classes have more than 49 students. The teacher-to-student ratio is 1:18.
