In 'Techno-identity: Who We Are and How We Perceive Ourselves & Others,' students will learn how science and technology have become some of the strongest factors in shaping identity in the modern age. The course explores a wide variety of topics, including the way technology shapes our classification of people, the media's influence on our perception and portrayal of identity, changing expectations of privacy and the questions that are raised by biometric technology and artificial intelligence. This Media Arts and Sciences course is best suited to the fields of psychology and computer science, but it is also relevant to anyone who utilizes modern technologies in his or her day-to-day life, from social networking websites to smart vacuum cleaners.
