Social Visualization: Course Description

In 'Social Visualization,' students will learn how to transform data of online activity into a meaningful visual depiction of virtual interactions. The process of creating these visualizations presents many challenges that students will confront along the way. The course explores issues of privacy and the interpretation of subjective data, as well the analytic and artistic problems presented in the act of visualization. As students learn to analyze and interpret data, they will design their own social visualizations, using the creative tools of form, color, sound and movement. This graduate-level course is taught by Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Judith Donath.
