Recording Engineering Schools: List of Schools with Degree Programs in Recording Engineering
Recording engineers bring an artist's performance to the masses. They use their recording expertise to digitally record, enhance and produce music, videos and special effects that are acoustically concert-hall quality. Indiana University, Texas State University and Middle Tennessee State have recording arts degree programs for recording engineers.
Recording Engineering Program Details
Most recording engineers complete a bachelor's degree program in recording arts. These programs prepare students for employment with recording studios, broadcasting networks and cable, television and film production companies. Students study noise control, acoustics design and music theory. Senior-level recording engineers often have a master's degree and find directorial positions with similar companies. Graduate students study recording studio management, architectural acoustics, psychoacoustics and electroacoustics.
Recording Engineering Bachelor's Degree Program Details
A bachelor's degree program in recording engineering prepares students to master audio equipment, such as audio mixing boards, digital audio workstations, analog tape machines and outboard effects processors. This type of program also teaches students how to produce, direct and record music or other audio effects for record labels, film production companies and television broadcasts. Students study production budgeting, multi-track studio recording strategies and mixing techniques. Remote location audio recording is often studied too. Graduates find positions as recording engineers, mixing engineers, mastering engineers and assistant recording engineers.
Recording Engineering Master's Degree Program Details
Graduates of a master's degree program in recording engineering are prepared to direct, manage and even design recording studios. Students study integrated electronic media, video production, noise control, acoustical design, music theory, psychoacoustics and architectural acoustics. They may also study musical synthesis, multi-track recording, recording arts law and film scoring. Graduates may find senior positions as recording engineers, sound designers, acoustical engineers and audio/video engineers.
