Photographic images taken by photojournalists tell stories without any words. Newspapers, online news outlets and broadcasting networks employ photographers who specialize in photojournalism. Although accredited online photojournalism degree programs are not available, most photojournalists hone their keen perspective and attention to detail through traditional, on-site photojournalism degree programs.

Photojournalism Associate's Degree Program Core Courses

An associate's degree program for photojournalists is often called an Associate of Arts in Digital Photography. This degree program builds a foundation for amateur photojournalists and teaches them basic photography concepts. Students learn about staging, portraits, diffusers and other lighting effects, photo-editing software applications and digital and 35mm cameras. They also learn about lens perspective and luminescence. Upon graduation, students may find employment with newspapers and portrait studios. They can also work as independent contractors.

Photojournalism Bachelor's Degree Program Core Courses

Photojournalists seeking a bachelor's degree often complete a journalism or visual communication degree program with a concentration in photojournalism. This type of degree program offers courses in photojournalism history and techniques, basic news writing and reporting and visual communication and media law. Graduates can work for local or city newspapers, regional and national magazines and other multimedia news outlets.

Photojournalism Master's Degree Program Core Courses

A master's degree program for photojournalists often falls under the larger umbrella degree program of journalism, mass communication or visual communication. Students learn how to integrate photojournalism into advertising, print media and electronic broadcasts. Students take classes in communication ethics and law, photo editing, news and feature writing, television and radio scriptwriting and advanced desktop publishing.
