Geodynamics Seminar: Course Description

This lecture-formatted OpenCourseWare will examine glaciers and other ice-related analyses with respect to their development over time. Topics covered include planetary ice, the Snowball Earth hypothesis and ice rheology. Students will also examine geological concepts, such as glacial tectonics. The course also covers biological concepts, including subglacial life forms. Professors Karen Bice, Sarah Das and Mark Behn will lead students through these concepts with a photographic account of the field trip to Iceland attended by students of the on-campus course. These photographs outline various ice and glacial structures to highlight the main points of this course. Additionally, the course page also includes a list of topics that serve as ideas for projects on the course material.

Photographs and a list of scheduled events from the field trip to Iceland are made available online. Additionally, a list of reference material will be available. More information on this OpenCourseWare can be found at the Geodynamics course home page.
