Interactions between charged particles in solar winds and atoms in the ionosphere create the auroras at the Earth's poles, and the auroras in turn contain their own electric currents and magnetic fluctuations. Study these interactions in a free course made available from MIT through OpenCourseWare. The 'Electromagnetic Interactions' OpenCourseware will be best for graduate students studying Physics or Engineering.

Electromagnetic Interactions: Course Description

This graduate-level course begins with the theory and applications of electrostatics. Magnetostatics, single particle motion and quasi-statics follow. Finally, you'll study electromagnetic waves and radiation. Students will also learn about Cerenkov and Bremsstrahlung radiations. Professor Jeffrey Freidberg considers the theoretical constructs and multiple applications of each of these subjects. The OpenCourseWare course page contains eight lecture notes from Professor Freidberg, seven sets of lecture notes from Professor Ian Hutchinson from a previous year, and problem sets from Professor Ron Parker.

The course includes notes on most of the lectures, a good annotated reading list, and assignments without solutions. To learn more, visit the electromagnetic interactions course page.
