The Database Development Life Cycle: Course Description
Students utilizing this free, online IT and Computing course are introduced to the waterfall model, a basic method that will allow them to understand a range of techniques in database development. They learn about the importance of good database development, with an emphasis on completeness, efficiency, flexibility, integrity and usability. Students study the required tasks of the waterfall model, including establishing requirements, analysis, design, implementation, testing and maintenance. They address questions about the support of data management strategy, including how often data should be backed up and which auditing mechanisms are needed. Students also learn the difference between validation and verification in the testing of databases. And they explore forms of database maintenance, including operational maintenance, porting and implementation maintenance and changes in original requirements.
