Algebraic Topology: Course Description

This course, originally instructed by MIT's Dr. Tyler Lawson, serves as a graduate-level introduction to algebraic topology. Students concentrate on singular homology and the dual theory of singular cohomology. Students are also introduced to Kunneth formulas, intersection pairings, cup products and the Lefschetz fixed point theorem. Topics for 'Algebraic Topology' are presented through a series of readings and further explored through the assigned problem sets. The required textbook for the course, Allen Hatcher's Algebraic Topology, is available in print or online. Students interested in the 'Algebraic Topology' course should have prior understanding of advanced algebra and basic point set topology.

The OpenCourseWare includes readings and problem sets. If you are interested in taking this free course, visit the algebraic topology course web page.
