Advanced Semantics: Course Description

Semantics is an area of linguistics that studies the meaning of discourse, words, phrases and sentences. As people communicate, the substance of their correspondence can be misinterpreted. The study of the relationship between different linguistic units and compounds can clarify the meaning of a broader communication. Professor Kai von Fintel and Professor Irene Heim offer this OpenCourseWare to analyze advanced semantics. Although the objective of the course is the analysis of semantics, Professors Fintel and Heim rotate the specific content from year to year to keep the course fresh. This course is offered in lecture format.

Lecture notes, study materials and suggested readings are available online for free for this course. If you are interested in this free course, visit the Advanced Semantics course page.
