Valdosta State University Overview
Valdosta State University was established in 1906, although its first building was not erected until 1912. The school was originally a woman's college. In 1950, it became coeducational and adopted the name it has today. The school is located in Valdosta, which lies in South Georgia, close to the Georgia/Florida border.
Valdosta State University enrolls 11,000 students, almost 10,000 of which are undergraduates. These students are divided amongst seven schools and 56 undergraduate programs. The university also offers 27 master's programs, nine education specialist programs and two doctoral programs.

Campus and Learning Environment
Valdosta State University is divided into a main campus and a north campus. The main campus houses several of the university's administrative buildings and academic departments. The north campus is primarily devoted to the university's Langdale College of Business.
The main campus resides on 85 acres and is about ten blocks south of the north campus. Satellite buildings associated with the university are between both campuses. As of 2009, the university is expanding with construction underway on five new buildings, including a new Student Health Center, a Student Union Building and two suite-styled student dormitories called Georgia Hall and Hopper Hall.
