University of Southern California School of Social Work

The University of Southern California School of Social Work offers a national online MSW program students can complete virtually anywhere they have access to a computer and an Internet connection.

About USC School of Social Work

Available through the school's Virtual Academic Center, the MSW@USC program is designed to engage students through web-based learning and supervised field instruction, utilizing the same curriculum and the same faculty that has made the school one of the best training grounds in the country.

Like the campus-based Master of Social Work program, students select a concentration area to study, including Families and Children; Health; Mental Health; or Community Organization, Planning and Administration, as well as an optional Military Social Work sub-concentration.

The USC School of Social Work invites academically bright students to apply for advanced standing, which enables them to earn the degree in less time through full-time or part-time study. Advanced standing applicants must demonstrate their readiness for second-year courses and meet specific admissions requirements.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Students must already have earned a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. For the advanced stranding program, students must hold a BSW earned within the last five years.

Student Testimonials

'USC's virtual MSW program allowed me to obtain my graduate degree in a non-traditional way, but in a way that suited my needs. Along the way, I made lasting friendships and was instructed by many incredible faculty members. I will be eternally grateful for the education I received through this program.'

-Alexandra Leichter

'Logically, one would think that you couldn't learn about social work theory, issues and the human condition on a virtual platform, let alone develop and maintain nurturing relationships. The USC Virtual Academic Center (VAC) proved that logic to be wrong. The relationships that I have developed here are just as rich as any we could form in a traditional classroom. There is, perhaps, no better classroom than the VAC to shape willing minds into the social workers of tomorrow.'
