University of South Florida Review

The University of South Florida, located in Tampa, is a research institution and one of the largest universities in the state. Degree programs are offered in areas including public health, rehabilitation sciences, music, accountancy and community design.

University of South Florida Overview

The University of South Florida (USF) was founded in 1956 and established to meet the educational needs of Florida's urban areas. In addition to the main North Tampa campus, USF has campus locations in St. Petersburg, Lakeland and Sarasota-Manatee. USF offers more than 220 degree program at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and specialists levels.

USF enrolls 39,000 students and and offers housing options that include suites, dorms rooms, apartments and Greek housing. USF has more than 400 student clubs and organizations in areas such as recreation, politics and multiculturalism.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Admissions decisions are primarily based on USF's admissions success predictors, which include high school coursework and standardized test scores. Undergraduate, transfer, graduate and international applications can be submitted online or by fax. Admitted students will need to attend orientation, complete housing paperwork, submit proof of immunizations and make an enrollment deposit; academic advisement is available during the course enrollment process.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

The USF Libraries have over 1.5 volumes in six libraries. The libraries are located on the main campus and the St. Petersburg and Lakeland campuses. The library collection includes mental health research and health sciences materials. Library services offers interlibrary loans, presentation practice rooms, a tutoring center, laptop checkout and writing assistance.

The student-faculty ratio is 27.5:1. Internet access is available in ten percent of the classrooms, and USF has a campus-wide Internet network. Computers are available in the five open-use labs on the campus, and technology services offered include remote access and e-mail.
