The University of North Texas, located in the city of Denton, is one of the largest universities in the state of Texas. The university offers more than 230 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs.
University of North Texas Overview
Founded in 1890, this university was originally named the Texas Normal College and Teachers' Training Institute. The University of North Texas (UNT) went on to establish a number of academic programs, including the first programs in the country in emergency administration and disaster prevention, jazz studies and accredited counseling. UNT has a student population of over 36,000 and offers more than 230 degree programs.
In addition to the main campus in Denton, the University of North Texas also operates campuses in Fort Worth and Dallas. The Denton campus has 14 residence halls and student apartments for couples and family. This Texas college has nearly 400 registered student organizations, including multicultural, academic, professional, honorary and religious fraternities.
Admission and Enrollment Overview
The University of North Texas is classified as a selective university and, in addition to official transcripts and standardized test scores, applicants need to complete the ApplyTexas application. Admission requirements for transfer, international, visiting, adult and early admission applicants are available on UNT's website. Campus Facilities and Learning Environment
The student-to-faculty ratio at the University of North Texas is 20:1 and the university has campus facility expansion plans to accommodate its growing student population. General access computer labs are located on the Denton and Dallas campuses. Library facilities include over five million catalogs of periodicals, maps, books, audio visual materials, journals, music scores and documents; a branch library is located at UNT Dallas.
The multimedia development lab offers technology consultation, website maintenance, accessibility consultation and other services for students and university faculty. Students can visit the writing lab, located on-campus and online, for tutor, peer-editing advice, workshops and a number of writing resources.
