University of Louisiana Review

The University of Louisiana is located in Lafayette and is part of the state's public university system. Academic programs are offered by the university in a number of fields, including fashion design, philosophy, civil engineering, biology and nursing.

University of Louisiana Overview

Established in 1900, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL) graduated its first class in 1903 and began offering a bachelor's degree program by 1920. Today, over 100 undergraduate and master's degree programs, as well as a post-master's certificate program are offered.

UL graduates approximately 1,200 students each year and has a student population of more than 16,000. The university has a research park, several athletic facilities and student organizations, including an alumni association, German club, financial management association, metal arts student society and an ice hockey club.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Guaranteed admission is available for applicants who meet UL's admissions requirements; information for prospective in-state and transfer applicants can be found on the website. Applicants who are not eligible for guaranteed admission need to submit additional paperwork to the university's admission committee. Campus Learning Environment and Facilities

UL is home to the Edith Garland Dupré Library, which has one million volumes, over 6,000 subscriptions, more than two million microforms and several special collections. The library also offers a newly designed database, several student computer labs, a graduate study room, reading rooms, eLibrary services and a bakery.

The University Research Park is available for laboratory studies in areas, including primary care, immersive technologies, engineering and agriculture. UL's student-faculty ratio is 23:1, with over 750 adjunct, full and part-time faculty members. International study is available in locations, such as Paris, London, Florence and Mexico City.
