The University of Hartford is a private, nonsectarian 4-year university located in the Connecticut town of Hartford. The not-for-profit university offers highly ranked programs in the fields of business, fine arts and performing arts.

University of Hartford School Overview

The University of Hartford began as an art school for women when it was chartered in 1877. The school currently offers a much broader range of academic subjects in nine distinct colleges and serves more than 7,000 students from Connecticut and 45 other U.S. states.

The university's Hartt School was founded in 1920 and remains one of the nation's premiere schools for performing arts, music, dance and theater. The business school is consistently ranked among the top ten percent of business schools in the country. Other popular fields of study at the university include communications, psychology, health sciences and architectural engineering technology.

Admissions and Enrollment

First-year students interested in attending the University of Hartford must submit a paper or online application along with high school transcripts and standardized test scores. Students who have earned scores of three or higher on advanced placement tests in high school will receive university credit.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

The 350-acre main campus of the University of Hartford rests against areas of West Hartford, Hartford and Bloomfield. The campus has several academic and administrative buildings; the most recent additions include a $34 million Integrated Science, Engineering and Technology Complex, the Mort and Irma Handle Performing Arts Center and a University High School building.

The University of Hartford employs 336 full-time faculty members and 591 part-time faculty members to teach in more than 89 different fields of study. The student-to-faculty ratio at the school is 14:1.
