Towson University Overview

Towson University originated as a training school for teachers in Baltimore, Maryland. The school has since expanded to become the second-largest institution in Maryland. It currently houses eight colleges and enrolls 21,111 students per year. The school offers 62 undergraduate majors, 43 master's degree programs and four doctoral programs.

In 2009, Towson University was ranked eighth in the category of Public University-Master's (North) by U.S. News & World Report. Forbes included Towson University in its list of 'Top 100 Public Colleges and Universities in the United States' in 2009.

Prospective freshmen can take advantage of rolling admission and apply throughout the year. Admission is based on SAT or ACT scores, high school performance, strength of classes taken and a personal statement. It holds more than 18,000 CDs, 570,000 books, 840,000 microforms, 5,600 journal subscriptions, 150 electronic databases and 173,000 electronic books.
