The University of Texas at Austin offers over 300 degree programs in a broad range of fields. The university includes 18 colleges and schools and features eight different interdisciplinary academic units in science, technology and engineering.

University of Texas Overview

The main campus of the University of Texas is located on a 350-acres campus complex, less than a mile from the state's capitol building. Founded in 1883, the school has a student population of over 50,000, making it one of the largest public universities in the nation. The school enrolls students from more than 110 countries and from every state in the nation. In addition to its Austin campus, the university has eight other campuses scattered throughout the Texas.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

The University of Texas' admission process consists of reviewing an applicant's academic and personal achievements. The school admissions policy is selective, and fewer than half of the students who apply are accepted. Standardized test scores, academic ranking, overall GPA and the quality of the college essays are considered highly important in the selection process.

Learning Environment and Campus Facilities

The Austin campus has 17 libraries with total holdings of more than eight million books. The libraries contain computer workstations, a multimedia computer facility, group study rooms. The campus also has seven museums, 90 research units and a variety of labs and media centers.

The University of Texas has 2,900 faculty members, over 90% of whom hold terminal degrees in their fields. The majority of classes have between 20-49 students, and there is one faculty member for every 17 students.
