Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, named after one of the one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, was founded in 1969. The college offers a number of special facilities including an art gallery, Holocaust resource center, marine science laboratory and on-campus child care facilities. The college is classified by the Princeton Review as a highly selective institution and has been recognized as a governor's school of environment since 1988.

The campus population of 7,307 is comprised of part-time and full-time undergraduate and graduate students. Stockton has five residence halls on its campus and students can choose to live in one of four living learning communities, which have themes that include global citizenship, diversity, positive living and sustainability. The new Campus Center is the college's 'green project' which is currently in development and will include a number of new facilities, such as a theater, dining hall, lounges, bookstore and offices. Stockton also has a number of student organizations and is home to the men's soccer champions of the 2001 NCAA Division III conference.

Stockton has international education opportunities for students interested in studying abroad; programs typically require students to meet minimum GPA standards and complete two consecutive semesters at the college.
