Sonoma State University Review
Sonoma State University is a small public school located one hour north of San Francisco in the scenic countryside of Sonoma, California. The most popular fields of study at the university include business, biology, communications, kinesiology, pre-nursing and psychology.
Sonoma State University Overview
In 1960, Sonoma State University was founded from the educational institution of Santa Rosa Center, San Francisco State College. Today, the campus is populated by an annual enrollment of nearly 9,000 students, 86% of whom are undergraduates.
The university offers 45 bachelor's degree programs and 16 master's degree programs. It also offers eight certificate programs and nine credential programs for non-traditional students. Sonoma State University is the only school in California that is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. It is consistently named the 'Most Green' campus in the nation by the Princeton Review.
Admissions and Enrollment Information
Freshmen enrollment is open to individuals who have earned a high school diploma or GED but have never attended a college or university. The school only accepts those who earned grades of a 'C' or better in high school courses. International, transfer and graduate students may also apply, although the admissions process is different for each category.
Campus Facilities and Learning Environment
Sonoma State University's campus includes several buildings of note, including the Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center, named for the acclaimed creator of Peanuts. Other features include one of the largest libraries in the California State University System, Green Music Center and the 59,000-square-foot recreation center which houses dance studios, gyms and aerobic equipment. Students are encouraged to use technology and computer labs to gain a better sense of the global workplace before graduation.
