Rasmussen College Review

Rasmussen College has 17 campuses in five states. It offers 57 associate degrees, 21 bachelor's degrees, five diplomas and three certificates; many degrees can be earned entirely online in programs such as healthcare management, pharmacy technician, banking, early childhood education and criminal justice.

Rasmussen College Overview

Begun in 1900 as Rasmussen Practical School of Business in St. Paul, Minnesota, Rasmussen College has expanded in both the number of locations and variety of courses taught. Rasmussen's first students were all men, but they were joined by ladies soon after women were given the right to vote. Rasmussen focuses on career programs that prepare students for jobs. The college partners with an online education provider in order to offer a full range of online degrees. In 2002, the college was accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Enrollment at Rasmussen College begins by filling out an application form and paying an application fee. An early application will aid a student in possibly receiving a Grade Point Achievement Scholarship. Neither SAT nor ACT scores are required, but the prospective student will need to take an entrance exam. The next step is to request that transcripts be sent to the college. About two weeks before the first class, accepted students must attend a new student orientation. Financial aid staff work with students to help them receive adequate aid.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

At all campuses, classes are limited to 15-25 students, and free one-on-one tutoring is available. Employment rates are high, with 98% of Rasmussen's graduates being employed. Online courses take a read only approach and don't have video lectures; students interact with classmates and instructors through online discussions boards and e-mail. The campuses frequently participate in community events.

Each campus has a library with adequate resources to aid students in every class offered. Computer labs are often used by specific classes, but students have free access to them whenever they are not in use by a scheduled class.
