Macon State College Overview

Originally known as Macon Junior College, Macon State College was established in 1965 by the University System of Georgia in an attempt to create a 2-year college in middle Georgia. In 1996, the newly named Macon State College became a 4-year institution and its first bachelor's degrees were awarded in 1999.

Currently, Macon State College does not have a graduate program and only awards associate and bachelor's degrees through five different schools. Macon State College is currently the largest college in Central Georgia.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Macon State College typically receives close to 3,800 applications each year and currently has a 69% admission rate. The college requires a high school transcript or GED score that indicates that an applicant is prepared for a college-level education, as well as a TOEFL score if English is not an applicant's first language. After a student is accepted, they then receive instructions in the mail about enrollment, advisement and orientation.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

Macon State College consists of five schools on one main campus in Macon, as well as one satellite campus located in Warner Robins, GA. The school's main 168-acre campus is located in Bibb County, while the Warner Robins campus is located within walking distance to Robins Air Force Base.

The Macon campus includes ten major buildings including the Professional Sciences Conference Center, Student Life Center and a library complete with several computers, study rooms and a coffee shop. Both campuses provide an encouraging and productive learning environment for students and the current student to faculty ratio is 21:1. Macon State College also offers online courses outside of, and within real-time academic programs.
