Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College (LSU) was founded in Pineville, Louisiana, in 1853 as a school for military learning. It is currently the flagship of the entire Louisiana State University System and produces more graduates than any other institution of higher learning in the state. Admissions and Enrollment

In order to gain acceptance at Louisiana State University, individuals must have completed 18 credits of college preparatory classes, reached a grade point average of at least 3.0 and earned an SAT score of 1030 or an ACT score of 22. Students who wish to qualify for early admission must have an SAT score of 1260 and an ACT score of 28.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

The main campus of Louisiana State University sits on 650 acres of land in Baton Rouge, resting up against the banks of the Mississippi River. The campus has 250 academic, administrative and residence facilities, most of which are designed in the Italian Renaissance architecture style. The school's main library is the Troy H. Middleton Library and houses nearly three million volumes.

There are more than 1,300 full-time faculty members and nearly 180 part-time faculty members at Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College. The student-to-faculty ratio at the school is 21:1.
