Lamar University Overview

Lamar University was founded in 1923 as a junior college, operating out of the third floor of a high school. Today, the school is located in southeastern Beaumont, Texas, near Highway 69, and offers associate's degrees, bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and doctorates. The school currently enrolls 13,465 students, including 8,993 undergraduates.

As a member of the Southland Conference, Lamar University has won several athletic championships, including titles in basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, track and field, tennis and football. The school's list of alumni includes many notable persons, several of whom are, or have been, professional athletes. These include Major League Baseball players Brian Sanches, Bruce Aven and Kevin Millar.

Freshmen applicants must complete the school's application, which requires SAT or ACT scores, official high school transcripts and the completion of basic academic courses, as specified on Lamar University's website.
