Kennesaw State University is a public institution belonging to the University System of Georgia. The school is located in Kennesaw, Georgia, some 20 miles north of Atlanta. Kennesaw State is well known for its education, nursing and business programs.

Kennesaw State University Overview

The Georgia Board of Regents established what is now Kennesaw State University in 1963 as Cobb County Junior College. In 1966, the school officially opened as Kennesaw Junior College with just over 1,000 students. In 1976, the college became a 4-year institution and was renamed Kennesaw College.

After 20 years, in 1996, Kennesaw State University discontinued all associate degree programs except in nursing, and the school became a university offering only bachelor's and master degrees. Kennesaw State University enrolls close 21,500 students in 43 undergraduate degree and 16 graduate degree programs.

Of the 21,500 students, only a quarter attend part-time. The school employs over 600 faculty members, 43% of which are tenured, giving Kennesaw State a student:faculty ratio of 21:1. More than 150 fraternities, sororities, interest groups, honor societies, and intramural sports organizations bolster campus life.

Kennesaw State is the University of Georgia system's third-largest university and resides on a 240-acre campus.Kennesaw State's campus includes several services and resources for students and faculty alike. Major buildings include the A.L. Burruss Building, containing the Coles College of Business, a food court, several lecture halls, a computer lab and a parking deck. The Convocation Center houses facilities for Kennesaw State's athletics program, performing arts programs and graduation ceremonies. The Bentley Rare Book Gallery is a museum-grade rare book library with more than 15,000 volumes.
