Kansas State University's main campus in Manhattan, Kansas, offers undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture, agriculture, arts and sciences, education, engineering, business, and veterinary medicine. The Salina campus provides associate's and bachelor's degree programs in aviation, technology management, family studies and human services.
Kansas State University Overview
Manhattan, Kansas, a college town known locally as the 'Little Apple,' is home to 50,000 residents and 23,000 Kansas State students. The Salina campus, 60 miles away, houses the College of Technology and Aviation. The Olathe Innovation Campus is outside Kansas City, as part of the Kansas Bioscience Park. Kansas State University has 45 fraternities, 31 sororities and 450 student-run organizations, catering to interests as diverse as manga, juggling, opera and robotic competition.
The nationally known Wildcats sports teams compete in NCAA's premiere Division I. Academically, K-State has topped state universities in the number of Goldwater, Marshall, Rhodes, Truman and Udall scholars since 1986. K-State was listed as one of the '25 cutting-edge schools' in Kaplan Publishing's You Are Here college guide, and the Princeton Review and Kiplinger 100 both listed Kansas State as one of the best values in U.S. higher education.
Admissions and Enrollment Overview
Students applying to K-State need a score of at least 21 on the ACT exam, or a high school GPA of 2.0 in the Kansas college-prep curriculum. Out-of-state students need a GPA of 2.5 or better. Prospective freshmen have 250 major and 40 minor programs to choose from. The 'open option' allows students to explore a range of subjects for a few semesters. Graduate students can enroll in 130 programs.
Campus Facilities and Learning Environment
With 85 buildings on its 664-acre campus, Kansas State features 91 research facilities and centers and 22 engagement centers and institutes. The 15 residence halls include both dormitories and apartments. Nearly all incoming freshmen elect to live on campus.
The athletically inclined can try out for 16 varsity teams or participate in 300 intramural teams, over 20 club sports, and dozens of non-competitive sports. The Rec Complex has three gyms with courts for basketball, handball, racquetball, squash and wallyball. Qualified trainers oversee weight and fitness equipment and two indoor tracks. Outdoors, 20 acres of courts and fields are lighted for night play. The Natatorium features a lap swimming pool, recreational pool and diving well.
K-State courses include a project-based curriculum to engage students in specialized topics. For example, a student can invent a language in Introduction to Linguistic Anthropology, create a resort complex in Golf Course Design or take part in a Renaissance-era play in Jacobean Drama.
