Ithaca College Overview

Ithaca College was founded in 1892 by William Egbert as a conservatory of music. Today, the school offers a strong liberal arts program to undergraduate and graduate students. As of 2010, U.S. News & World Report had ranked Ithaca College in its top ten list of best master's degree programs in the north for 15 consecutive years.

Ithaca College has several satellite campuses located across the U.S. and in other countries. Some of these campuses are located in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., London, Antigua, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Sweden. The 6,448-student school is best known for its broadcasting and communications programs. Prominent graduates who work in broadcasting include Jessica Savitch, Karl Ravech and Ricki Lake.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Ithaca College offers an early decision program, and students are encouraged to apply online with the common application. There may be several additional requirements, including auditions and interviews. Students who applyly online receive a user name and password and can continually check on the status of their application. Ithaca offers several financial aid and scholarship programs, including the President's Scholarship, school-specific awards, a leadership scholarship and the Park Scholarship. Ithaca students can also apply for federal aid.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

Ithaca College is well-known for its students' commitment to the arts. Many students form their own musical groups and perform on campus and in the surrounding town of Ithaca. Ithaca also has a prominent Greek life, with four houses on campus and three Greek letter organizations that are unaffiliated with the school.

The school's library has several technological features that help both students and faculty conduct research. These services include subject-based research guides, journals and an 'Ask a Librarian' feature, where students can chat online with a librarian. Students can use interlibrary loan to access materials not in the library's collection. The library has five floors and 74 computers available for student use. Students with their own computers can access the Internet on the library's wireless network. A library instruction classroom has a SmartBoard.
