Eastern Michigan University School Overview

Eastern Michigan University was first established as Michigan State Normal School for teacher education in 1849. Today, the school operates as a comprehensive university offering degree programs in more than 200 fields of study. Michigan University is attended by 17,000 undergraduate and 5,000 graduate students.

Although several of the students are Michigan natives, others represent 45 different U.S. states and 93 foreign countries. The most popular undergraduate majors are education, social sciences, business and history.

Admissions and Enrollment at Eastern Michigan University

High school students applying for freshman enrollment status at Eastern Michigan University must supply transcripts and standardized test scores from either the SAT or ACT. Transfer students must prove a 2.0 grade point average or higher at their previous college or university in order to be considered for acceptance to Eastern Michigan University.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment at Eastern Michigan University

Eastern Michigan University's campus is located in Ypsilanti, about ten miles east of Ann Arbor and 40 miles west of the metropolitan Detroit airport. The campus is home to 122 athletic and academic buildings. The university offers special academic opportunities to its students, including an Honors College, a writing center, a learning center, accelerated format programs and study abroad opportunities. It also provides distance learning programs and weekend and evening programs for working adults.
