Eastern Kentucky University Overview

Originally founded in 1874, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) was originally a teacher's college. In 1966, the university established its current name and expanded its degree offerings to other academic fields. EKU currently offers over 160 on-campus and online degree programs and has a student population of approximately 16,000.

University housing options include single-sex and co-ed residence halls and student apartments located across campus. EKU is also home to more than 150 student organizations and clubs in a variety of categories, including service, recreational sports, social fraternities and sororities, religious and governance.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

The admission procedure at EKU is a step-by-step process, where applicants submit their applications, final transcripts, standardized test scores and fees. Enrollment includes applying for campus housing and financial aid and attending an orientation session. Graduate admissions and enrollment information for individual programs and assistantships is provided on the university's website. Admissions counselors are available for assistance during the admissions and enrollment process; EKU assigns applicants and students to admissions counselors alphabetically.

EKU's student-faculty ratio is 17:1 and the university is currently planning to maintain a ratio of less than 19:1 for the upcoming years. The student computer labs, located in four areas across campus, are equipped with printers, Mac and Windows computers, scanners and a variety of general and department specific software. Wireless Internet is available in campus buildings and the EKU residence halls.
