East Tennessee State University Overview

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) was founded in 1911 as East Tennessee State Normal School, a teaching institution. In 1963, it became a state university, awarding baccalaureate and master's degrees. Today, ETSU also offers doctoral programs in education, medicine, nursing, audiology and physical therapy.

More than 13,000 students attend East Tennessee State University. Education is one of the most highly regarded and popular fields of study at ETSU, although the university also has strong health sciences programs. The school offers five online degree options.

Admissions and Enrollment at East Tennessee State University

Applicants to East Tennessee State University must provide high school transcripts showing they've completed courses in English, algebra, geometry, physical science, history, social studies, a foreign language and art. They also must provide SAT or ACT scores.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment at East Tennessee State University

East Tennessee State University is located on a 350-acre campus that features more than 60 academic and administrative buildings. The university provides 57 on- and off-campus computer labs, as well as 54 high-tech, 'smart' classroom spaces.

For both undergraduate and graduate programs, the majority of classes at East Tennessee State University feature fewer than 25 students. The school has 670 full-time faculty members, 79 percent of whom hold doctorate degrees.
