Baylor University Overview

Founded in 1845 as a Baptist university, Baylor University still upholds its keystone standards of scholarship based on the Christian faith, while preparing and challenging students to live lives of faith and excellence. Baylor tackles the scholarship portion of the keystone partly through research and development. Nearly half of the undergraduates take part in extra-curricular research.

Encouraging students to live a spiritual life, Baylor University provides chapel services, pastoral counseling and opportunities to build supportive relationships with fellow students and staff. Baylor also offers students opportunities to participate in mission trips, either to a different culture or in local ministries.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

All that is required of prospective students in the admissions process is completion of an online application by a specified date; this includes submitting an official transcript including grades through the junior year with a confirmed class rank and official ACT or SAT scores. Applicants may choose to strengthen the total application by including further information such as recommendation letters, a resume or short answer questions.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

Baylor University has ten libraries and resource centers that collectively house well over two million bound volumes, almost as many microforms and thousands of visual and audio items. Students also have access to 32,000 e-books, 13,000 e-journals and almost 300 Web-based resources for research.

As part of its emphasis on research, Baylor is part of Internet2, a consortium of hundreds of leading universities partnering with business and government to develop and test new applications and technologies to transform the Internet. Baylor has a faculty:student ratio of 1:16. This allows the school to keep class size to an average of 29 students.
