American Career College is a 2-year school, enrolling about 1,500 full time students across three campuses in Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire, catering to California state residents. The school was founded as the American College of Optics, an optical dispenser's school. Additional health-related certificate study programs were added and the school's name changed to American Career College in 1993 to accurately reflect its programs. American Career College has offered Associate of Occupational Science in Respiratory Therapy degrees and Associate of Occupational Science in Surgical Technology degrees since 2008.

Admissions and Enrollment Overview

Applicants are expected to participate in an in-person interview at the school. Prior to enrollment, students are again required to visit the school. To qualify for admission into a program, prospective students must meet the program's minimum score requirements on one of two admissions tests, depending on whether an applicant has a high school diploma or not.

Applicants without a high school diploma or equivalent can enroll in several programs offered at American Career College, and receive academic support and tutoring to complete a GED as part of their educational program. Students who pass the school's practice test can get their exam fees covered by the schoo.

Approximately 80% of all applicants to American Career College are offered admission and nearly all those admitted enroll in classes. A majority of American Career College students receive financial aid through federal financial aid programs.

Campus Facilities and Learning Environment

The Orange County campus has two buildings with a total of 20 classrooms and computer labs and nine science labs. The Los Angeles campus, which does not offer the respiratory therapy program, has 14 classrooms and computer labs and 10 science labs. At the Inland Empire campus in Ontario, California, students have access to 16 classrooms and computer labs and nine science labs.
