The World Since 1492: Course Description
This OpenCourseWare from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology focuses on World History since Columbus. The course revolves around four themes, including social and political revolution, imperialism and colonialism, industrialization and the emergence of capitalist societies and the rise of modern consumerism. Rather than exhaustively cover everything that occurred in the world in the last 500 years, the course is focused on these four themes in certain geographical areas in specific periods. In this way, the course highlights historical problems and processes that have affected the world as it is today. MIT Professor David Ciarlo teaches this free undergraduate World History course.
This MIT OpenCourseWare about World History includes a detailed reading list, one of the paper assignments and study questions. If you are interested in taking this free course, visit the World History course page.
