Urban Transportation, Land Use & the Environment: Course Description

'Urban Transportation, Land Use & the Environment' starts with an overview of urban transportation issues, technology and planning principles. In the first four lectures, Professor Pericles (Chris) Zegras discuss the pressures of economics and equity, the phenomena of rapid motorization and the growth of suburbs, and air pollution issues that accompany them. Examples of successful regional plans and technology are mentioned. Discussion then moves into case studies of Mexico City and Santiago de Chile, as well as other urban centers in Central and South America. This allows the course to help students to understand how urban planning and transit systems may be changed and improved in rapidly growing and evolving nations.

Full lecture notes, four assignments and a reading list are included. If you are interested in taking this course, visit the urban transport, land use and the environment course page.
