Urban Sociology in Theory and Practice: Course Description

Politics, technology, social inequalities, community changes and human behavior all affect the sociology of urban populations. These topics are discussed in MIT's free graduate-level OpenCourseWare 'Urban Sociology in Theory and Practice.' Professor Diane Davis helps students develop an understanding of socio-spatial change, social ecologies and urban social theory. This free course offered by the Urban Studies and Planning Department of MIT provides students with an understanding of the urban experience and the political, social and economic dynamics of urban change. Students will also learn what to expect from the cities of the future as globalization increases and new technologies are developed.
