Systems Biology Course Details

Taught by professor Alexander van Oudenaarden, 'Systems Biology' delves into the use of mathematical models in biology. This graduate-level biology class is organized into three sections, systems microbiology, cell systems biology and developmental systems biology. Many topics are examined, such as multistability, chemotaxis, equilibrium binding, inhibition theory and quorum sensing. The course explores systems in genetics, cells and molecules, but it focuses primarily on mathematics and modeling.

Course materials available to online students include the complete reading list and thorough notes from most lectures, downloadable as PDF files. Some of the more technically complex material for this course requires MATLAB software. For more information, visit the systems biology course site.
