System Dynamics for Business Policy: Course Description
System dynamics identifies and anticipates the consequences of a decision on an entire system, far down the line. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's OpenCourseWare 'System Dynamics for Business Policy' applies those analytical tools to decisions made in boardrooms, offices and factories, flagging potential policy mistakes and better alternatives before any error is committed in practice. This OpenCourseWare emphasizes practice over theory, and stresses learning to use the latest technology to assist modeling dynamics. Assignments use commercially available business simulation software programs. Links to the software, including free trial versions, are provided with the OpenCourseWare. Readings focus on identifying the key components of a system, mapping the interaction of those components and correcting problems that simulations identify with potential changes in the policies. MIT Sloan professors John Sterman, J. Bradley Morrison and Nelson Repenning taught the class as part of the core curriculum for MIT Sloan's MBA-level innovation and global leadership fellowship.
This OpenCourseWare includes suggested readings, assignment guidelines, software tools and two self-study courses. If you are interested in taking this course, go to the business policy systems course page.
