Symmetry, Structure and Tensor Properties of Materials: Course Description

'Symmetry, Structure, and Tensor Properties of Materials' OpenCourseWare from MIT is a graduate level course in the field of materials science and engineering. It investigates the origin of symmetry theory, the properties of lattices and space and point groups, how to use symmetry in the representation of tensor of crystal properties including representation and anisotropy surfaces and applications of elasticity and piezoelectricity. Lectures cover crystallography, 2D and 3D lattices, strain, thermal expansion, sheer and stress tensors, lattices and diffraction. The original course was taught by Professor Bernhardt Wuensch via lectures.

The OpenCourseWare for this class includes the video (.rm) files, audio (mp3) files of the lectures along with downloadable problem sets and a reading list, some of which is downloadable. If the information from this class would be helpful to you, visit the materials' symmetry, structure and tensor properties course page.
