Structural Mechanics in Nuclear Power Technology: Course Description

'Structural Mechanics in Nuclear Power Technology' is taught by Professors Oral Buyukozturk and Mujid Kazimi. The course is designed for students who wish to learn more about how nuclear power plant stations are designed and how they function. Topics discussed include metal design methods, fundamentals of mechanics, elastic stress analysis, design limits, fusion first wall description and thermal stresses and the deformation-creep. The course grade is comprised of nine problem sets, a quiz and a final paper. The final term paper should address a component of a nuclear power plant and demonstrate how it satisfies various criteria discussed in class over the lifetime of the plant.

Lecture notes, problem sets and a quiz are available for download for free online. If you are interested in taking this free OpenCourseWare, visit the structural mechanics in nuclear power technology homepage.
